METHUEN – As some residents face National Grid’s recently approved electricity rate increases, Methuen Mayor David P. “D.J.” Beauregard Jr. said residents on the city’s Methuen’s Community Choice Power Supply Program will save 25% on the supply rate.
Beginning in August, National Grid’s residential Basic Service supply rate increases from 15.568 cents to 17.185 cents per kilowatt-hour, while Methuen’s supply rate remains locked at 12.83 cents per kilowatt-hour through December 2027. The mayor said other parts of the bill are too much.
“I open my electric bill every month too, and I have the same reaction many of you do—my jaw hits the floor. I know many families are wondering how they’re supposed to keep up. The reality is that electric bills are still too high,” said Beauregard.
He explained “delivery charges and other costs” are outside of the city’s control.
The Community Choice Power Supply Program allows the city to negotiate electricity supply on behalf of residents and businesses, leveraging the community’s purchasing power to secure competitive pricing while preserving consumer choice. Residents may enroll in or leave the program at any time without penalty.
