DALTON — Town residents will see a small savings on their monthly electric bills.
Beginning with the January meter reads, enrolled Dalton residents and businesses will see a new rate of $0.13042 per kWh, down from the current rate of $0.13849. For an average monthly usage of 600 kWh, the change represents a savings of $5 a month on the supply portion of the bill.
The savings reflect the town’s new 34-month discount plan for its Community Choice Power Supply Program.
“I’m coming in at the end of this process,” said Town Manager Eric Anderson, who recently started on Nov. 17. “The discussions for this all took place months ago, but it’s certainly a great idea to have energy options for the [residents] of Dalton.”
The new electricity supplier for the discount plan is First Point Power, the town announced in a press release on Monday. No action is required by current participants, and the new rate will appear on the February 2026 bills.
According to Colonial Power Group, the town’s consultant based in Marlborough, the rate is 3 percent lower than Eversource’s Residential Basic Service rate. Residents who use Eversource will see an average savings of $3 a month, and the rates will change on Feb. 1.
The program will also continue offering an optional 100 percent green product at a rate of $0.13142 per kWh.
Dalton launched its electricity program in January 2015 to develop a stable and affordable energy program. Since then, residents and small businesses have saved over $1.7 million compared to Eversource.
The goal of the program is to deliver savings against Eversource Basic Service, although future savings can’t be guaranteed, according to a news release. The Dalton Community Choice Power Supply Program has no fees or charges.
